GRADE CENTER: How do I Freeze columns using Column Organization?

Follow the steps below to manage columns in the Blackboard Grade Center.

 

How to Show/Hide Columns

Hiding a column maintains all existing information associated with the column, but prevents it from being seen within the Grade Center. 

  1. Move the cursor over the Manage menu button.
  2. Click the Column Organization.
  3. Select the columns by checking the box next to names.
  4. Move cursor over Show/Hide and click Hide Selected Columns or Show Selected Columns.
  5. Click Submit.

How to freeze columns using Column Organization

Grade Center columns can be frozen so they do not move while scrolling through the other data. Frozen columns remain in position on the left side of the Grade Center while the rest of the columns can be scrolled through. This feature can be used to easily match up individual students with their data/score across the length of the Grade Center. Instructors can freeze and unfreeze any of the columns on the Organize Grade Center page. The columns containing students’ first and last names are frozen by default.


To freeze columns using Column Organization, follow these steps from the Grade Center spreadsheet. 

  1. Move the cursor over the Manage menu button.
  2. Click the Column Organization.
  3. On the Column Organization page, notice the dark gray bar that states: Everything above the bar is a frozen column. Drag this bar to change which columns are frozen.
  4. To add a grade column to the frozen section, drag an item above the dark gray bar.
  5. The Column Organization page updates immediately and the column name will have the word "(Frozen)" next it.
  6. When finished, click Submit to save.

To unfreeze a column, drag the row below the dark gray bar.

 

How to reorder columns using Column Organization

Follow the steps below to re-order columns. 

  1. Move the cursor over the Manage menu button.
  2. Click the Column Organization.
  3. On the Column Organization page, the Grade Center column names appear as a list. Move the cursor over an item and hold down the mouse button to drag an item up or down to a new position in the list.
  4. Release the mouse button to drop the item when it reaches the desired position.
  5. When finished, click Submit to save.

The grade columns will display in the new order on the Grade Center main page.
