Remote Student Technology
The following guidelines are designed to support remote technology for Wayne State students.
- All use of Wayne State technology—on campus or remote—must follow the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy
- If you are using personal devices to access Wayne State technology systems and services, please make sure your operating system is up to date. These updates include security patches that protect both you and the Wayne State community at large.

Learn Anywhere
The Academic Success Center has compiled resources available to ensure your success in the online learning environment at success.wayne.edu/learnanywhere.
Your instructor may require the use of Respondus LockDown Browser or Monitor during your exams. This software is not compatible with personal Chromebooks or mobile devices, you must use a laptop or desktop computer. Many university-distributed Chromebooks are compatible with LockDown Browser, but not Monitor. Find more Respondus FAQs at tech.wayne.edu/kb/academic-services/canvas/598.
Communication and file sharing
- Email
Verify that you can access your email and Microsoft Office web applications at connect.wayne.edu
- Microsoft Office
Students may download up to five free copies of Microsoft Office, which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and more. View download instructions at tech.wayne.edu/kb/help-support/cit-help-desk/77651.
- Microsoft Teams
Teams is a communication and collaboration tool included with Office 365. Chat, call, have meetings and share files or your screen from your phone or computer. Find more information at tech.wayne.edu/kb/communication-collaboration/instant-messaging/500197.
- Microsoft OneDrive Sync your files and access them remotely using the setup instructions at tech.wayne.edu/kb/communication-collaboration/wayne-connect/154658.
- Zoom Zoom is a web conferencing tool that makes it easy to collaborate using video chat and desktop sharing. Zoom will replace BigBlueButton in online classes. Licenses are available for students to meet with student organizations, hold study groups, and attend classes. Meetings can have up to 300 participants and last up to 24 hours.
