What should I know about free Microsoft Office at Wayne State? (FAQs)
Currently registered students and select Wayne State University employees are eligible for a free download of Microsoft Office. Below are some Frequently Asked Questions regarding the program.
Who can install and use the free Office 365 products?
All students registered for classes within the last year at Wayne State University. Faculty and Staff that are taking classes are included in this eligibility. Most employees are eligible.
FP&M Grounds, Parking, Retirees, Volunteer Faculty and those with only Guest IDs or GroupID are ineligible for this download, but will be able to use the Office 365 services located in their web browser.
Is there any cost to download and run the full versions of Office?
No. The software is free of charge.
How do I download and install the full versions of Office?
Just log in to Wayne Connect in your web browser at connect.wayne.edu and click Install to get started. Full instructions are available at go.wayne.edu/office.
What are common issues with installation?
- The Microsoft servers are very busy and your installation may take a long time. Try again at a different time.
- If you have a trial copy or a full copy of Microsoft Office on your computer it may conflict with the installation. If you have a trial version of Microsoft Office you should uninstall everything and retry. If you have a full version of Office, verify you have your original product key or login, then uninstall the old copy and try installation again.
How many copies of the software can I install?
Eligible users can install the software on up to five computers.
What Operating Systems and devices can I install the Office products on?
These are the system requirements for installation:
Windows OS: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1,
MacOS: Three most recent versions of the macOS. (As of Sept. 2022, macOS Monterey, Big Sur, Catalina)
Mobile version requirements:
iOS/iPadOS: two most recent versions of iOS and iPadOS.
Android: Any Android using ARM-based/Intel x86 processor.
Will I be able to keep the copy of Office once I graduate or leave WSU?
Office 365 will expire one year from when you were last registered for courses
at WSU.
