Training
C&IT offers IT training and continued learning resources for students, faculty and staff. These services are managed by the marketing, communications, training and development team, with periodic support from and collaboration with IT professionals and additional university partners. Services include virtual sessions, online courses, videos, consultations, workshops and knowledge documentation.
In today’s higher education landscape, technology is mandatory, and institutions are responsible not only for providing that technology but also for ensuring that it is equitably accessible and that the knowledge to use it is achievable.
These services ensure that the campus community can both access and use the technology available to them and understand the related policies and guidelines that steer their use of that technology in learning, teaching and working.

Knowledge Base
Frequently asked questions, recommended workarounds, and other documentation about current Wayne State technology are available in the C&IT Knowledge Base. This public resource is available to all users via the Wayne State service portal.
Virtual sessions
Recurring synchronous training sessions focused on Microsoft 365 and other select enterprise applications are available to employees throughout the academic year. Sessions are designed to provide a basic introduction to the tool and provide the knowledge needed to accomplish basic tasks. Sessions are hosted via Microsoft Teams, and employees can register to attend online via the events calendar.
Consultations
Technology consultation services are available to all Wayne State employees and are designed to identify the appropriate IT systems and services needed to support new or existing business processes. This service empowers all employees with the skills and confidence needed to create and own business processes using existing enterprise technology.
First, C&IT training staff meet with the customer to understand their specific needs and goals. After an initial conversation to gather information, the training team recommends existing tools and works with the customer to choose one. Once a tool is selected, specialized training and workshops are scheduled to prepare the entire requesting team for adoption.
If an existing tool is not suitable for a request, training staff guide the customer through submitting a project request to work with developers and identify if a custom solution is achievable and cost-effective.
Workshops
Technology workshops are available to all Wayne State employees. They are designed to help users become comfortable with using an IT tool or service, enabling them to create and own their business processes.
Workshops can be used to request existing training sessions for a specific team, or for other enterprise IT systems and services. Customers requesting a workshop should describe the relevant project, their training goals, their preferred method (online or in-person), and expected outcomes. C&IT training staff can then create a custom workshop to introduce and demonstrate the tool(s) to the customer group. A consultation may be necessary before a workshop can be offered.
