C&IT pilots building check-in process for COVID-19 daily screening
Wayne State University Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) is piloting a program to potentially trace COVID-19 cases on campus. The process includes filling out an online survey and then using a QR code received in an approval email to scan on an iPad to enter buildings. The process is contact-free.
Essential employees are already required to submit the Campus Daily Screener, which will be expected of students in the fall. The survey includes questions that have become standard these days: traveling, symptoms, testing, etc.
If given approval to travel to campus, Warriors will receive an email with a QR code after submitting their Campus Daily Screener. The QR code can then be accessed with a smartphone and scanned on iPads kiosks found inside building entrances. Collecting this data will help the university trace potential cases of the virus on campus, and notify the community appropriately.
The process includes some safety features as well. If denied access to travel to campus, users will receive a code that will warn them not to enter campus buildings and flag their check-in. Similarily, approval QR codes will only work for the day they are generated and cannot be reused.
