Protect yourself against Microsoft Outlook security vulnerability

Microsoft confirmed a critical security vulnerability affecting the Outlook desktop application Monday, March 14, via their Incident Response Team and Threat Intelligence. Wayne State C&IT is pushing an emergency update to all university-managed machines Thursday, March 16, to mitigate this threat.

Students, faculty, and staff who use the Outlook for Windows desktop application on non-managed or personal devices can protect themselves by running a Windows Update.

Patches may also be downloaded individually at msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/vulnerability/CVE-2023-23397.

This vulnerability only impacts Outlook for Windows and does not impact macOS or Apple devices, Outlook for Android, Microsoft 365 online, or the Outlook web application.
