Sunday, June 9, 2019, is moving day for Wayne State Computing & Information Technology.

Construction of C&IT's new data center at the corner of Cass and Antoinette has been completed, and the central IT organization has begun moving infrastructure into the new space. The phased migration began Sunday, May 19, and additional planned outages will be scheduled during low-usage times to minimize disruptions.

“The new data center is an investment by the university to elevate our existing infrastructure to current best practice standards of an energy-efficient, high-performance and secure computing environment,” said Daren Hubbard, chief information officer and associate vice president, C&IT. “Our goal with this new facility is to ensure that Wayne State is able to support the teaching, learning and research computing needs of today and tomorrow. Our current facility has served the campus well and we look forward to the new facility doing the same.”

The new construction houses all of Wayne State's computing facilities, and includes an energy-efficient cooling system as well as state-of-the-art security, fire protection, and power back-up. A substation was built on the property to provide redundant electrical feeds from Detroit Edison, giving our facilities truly reliable electrical power for the first time. This new building brings Wayne State into the future, and will help further support the success of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
