Never change your password again

Wayne State students, faculty and staff may now create a password that will never expire.

Previously, faculty and staff were required to update their password every 6 months, and students every 12 months. Now C&IT allows Wayne State users to keep the same password throughout their time at the university.

A password must meet the following requirements to qualify for long term use:

  • Must be at least 14 characters.
  • Must include one special character (!, #, &, %, ?, @, etc.).
  • Must not include AccessID, birth date or the name of the user.
  • Must not be a previous password.

To update your password, follow the steps here. If you choose not to update your password, you will still have to change your password based every 6 or 12 months as before.

This change allows Wayne State to keep up with the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) recommended guidelines for secure passwords. Read more about the NIST guideline updates at duo.com/blog/nist-update-passphrases-in-complex-passwords-out.

If you have any questions or need help changing your password, please contact the C&IT Help Desk at 313-577-4357.
