Protect your meetings from Zoombombing

With the increase in web-based meetings, we've also seen an increase in Zoombombing - when people purposely disrupt an open Zoom meeting by using the screen sharing function to display disturbing or inappropriate images.

Using Zoom requires caution. If your department owns a license for Zoom, please contact your local IT support for assistance. Currently, the C&IT Help Desk does not support Zoom.

  • Limit screen sharing: To prevent others from sharing their screens during a meeting, change the permissions to only allow meeting hosts to share their screens.
  • Use the waiting room feature: This feature allows you to approve participants before they join a meeting.
  • Only allow Zoom users: Require participants to verify their Zoom accounts before joining a meeting to avoid anonymous users.
  • Be careful what information you share: If you post the details for a Zoom meeting on social media, anyone can see it and join. Be sure to secure your public meetings and only communicate private meetings to trusted contacts.
