WarriorIT project welcomes information technology employees, seeks to strengthen Wayne State IT systems, services and support
Wayne State Computing and Information Technology (C&IT) has begun welcoming campus information technology (IT) professionals to the organization as a part of the WarriorIT consolidation project. This change in IT employee reporting and structure was announced earlier this year in an email from President M. Roy Wilson.
The project focuses on enhanced research infrastructure, IT standardization for all classrooms, consistent security standards, and employee cross-training to provide multiple layers of support.
Right now, C&IT is working closely with schools, colleges and departments across the university to collaborate on how to best serve students, faculty and staff during and after this transition.
"I am so proud of the exceptional work and incredible talent of all of our campus IT staff," said interim Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer for C&IT, Rob Thompson. "This opportunity to coordinate and work together as a cohesive team-with a strong focus on Wayne State's mission-will propel our campus to meet the demanding challenges of the future, and it will serve as a catalyst for digital transformation, research excellence and innovation."
Organization and employees
This change includes a new organizational structure, which will transition employees to fit the new C&IT top-level organization chart [PDF], effective on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.
Operational alignment is a multi-year component of this project, and it will begin with an inventory and discovery process. Between Nov. 2, 2020, and the first quarter of 2021, most affected employees will continue their current work (primarily under the direction of their respective departments) as the onboarding phase continues. Where possible, IT staff will continue to support their existing units-with the added benefit of cross-training with a new and deeper pool of support.
